KiCAD Projects: Commodore 64C

This project includes a set of schematics and PCB designs for the Commodore 64C (also known as the C64-E) personal computer, drawn in KiCAD.

The schematic was created using images from Bo Zimmerman's FTP site.

Images can also be found in the documentation directory.

The project is divided into three main folders:

250469-RevA - Motherboard revision A. This version, also known as Short Board, features the 64-pin "Super PLA" connector (code 251715-01).

250469-RevB - Motherboard revision B. This version includes a more advanced Super PLA (code 252535-01) with Color RAM integration.

docs - stand for documentation.

libs - KiCad libraries specific to the project.

Differences

While designing the schematics, I made the decision to prioritize the availability of all components used. While I can't help with many of the ICs, many other components can still be obtained from distributors today.

However, a few common components are now unavailable. In these cases, I substituted the closest widely available substitute I could find. These components differ from the originals in the following ways:

  • Diode Rectifier Bridge (CR2)
  • Line Filter L1, 8 terminals
  • Crystal (Y1)
  • RF Choke Coils L3,L4
  • Some diodes and transistors
